How do I export my letter or other document to Word format?

Edit PDFs in Prolegis for integrated efficiency, email, and fax. Our "source of truth" workflow saves time, while MS Word export is there for traditionalists.

How to Export

  1. Locate the Export Icon: Within the document view, click the Word Document icon.

  2. Find Hidden Options: If you don't see the icon immediately, click the three vertical dots (ellipsis) to reveal the full actions menu.

  3. Monitor Progress: Once clicked, a spinning icon will appear in the top right corner of your screen. This indicates your document is being generated.

  4. Download & Save: The file will automatically download to your computer. When you select "Save As," the filename will default to the Document Name and the Current Date for easy organization.

Important Best Practices

  • Save in Prolegis First: If you have made any changes within the Prolegis editor, ensure you Save your document before exporting. This guarantees that your Prolegis "Source of Truth" matches the version you are taking into Word.

  • Connection to Data: Please note that once a Word document is saved to your computer, it is no longer linked to the Prolegis database. If you update matter details in Prolegis (such as a purchase price or closing date), you will need to generate a new Word export to reflect those changes.

  • Syncing Back: To keep your file record complete, we recommend uploading your final edited Word version back into the Prolegis document hub.

The ability to export to Microsoft Word is only available in Version 5 of the Text Editor. If the Firm default Text Editor is Version 5, you will see the option to switch to Version 4 on the top right hand corner of the Text Editor.
